Disposal of domestic sewage from cities and towns is the biggest source of pollution of water bodies in India. According to National Sanitation status report, Govt. of India 2014, the level of treatment available in cities with existing treatment plant varies from 2.5% to 89% of the sewage generated. Recent report of Central Pollution Control Board, envisages that the major cities of India produce 38,534 million liters per day (MLD) of sewage, but the urban sewage treatment capacity is only 11,786 MLD. The report also revealed that out of 152 STPs spread over 15 states in the country with total treatment capacity of 4716 MLD, the actual treatment capacity utilization is only 3126 MLD (66%). As per Govt. of India and State Missions, it is mandatory to set-up Sewage Treatment Plant in urban and rural for improved sanitation with efficient working principle. Therefore this, three day programme is planned to have an Operational knowledge in Sewage Treatment Process and its evaluation and performance improvement.
